Recently I was sitting in a restaurant watching the manager move from one task to another like a well oiled machine. He was the back up to several servers and kept them stocked with fresh coffee in the pots, completed food orders sitting in the ready position.
This all reminded me of a well organized work cell where the work cell leader moves to wherever he or she is needed to maintain the flow of work. In your work cells who is responsible to maintain the flow of work?
How well are they doing?
Is the flow continuous or sporadic?
Tracking the flow of work at least hourly can help you identify where corrective action is needed.
